Visit to Kennet & Avon Canal

Our July visit to the Kennet and Avon Canal was on one of the warmer (though not the very hottest!) days of the summer - the cooling effect of the water and the fresh breeze through the boat made it a good place to be that afternoon. Several people wondered what flavour the jam was that we had with our cream scones - some suggesting cherry. The afternoon tea was provided by a local tearooms, and the lady there tells me that "The jam is indeed homemade, it is actually mixed fruit jam, made with the fruit in the garden and occasionally we sometimes buy a little extra. It would predominantly be Apple, rhubarb, damsons, gooseberry's, blackcurrants, blackberries, strawberries & raspberries, but sad to say highly unlikely to have had any cherries." If you were unable to join us on the trip (or wish to sample it again !), "The Tutti Pole" is just south of the bridge over the canal in Hungerford - the scones were home-made as well ! (but the tearoom is not open on Mondays or Tuesdays). Information about the public trips offered by the canal trust can be found at https://rose.katrust.org.uk/publictrips/.
