Wargrave Local History
Latest News - December 2014
In December the Wargrave Local History Society held its traditional party.
Members puzzled over old photographs, showing shops that had existed in the village, and others of details of historic interest around Wargrave. The shop pictures showed that the village used to have a much wider range of shops than applies now, whilst the 'details' pictures gave even long-established residents something to 'think about'!
They were then treated to refreshments of mulled wine, home-made blackberry and apple pies - made with Wargrave grown apples and blackberries! - and mince pies provided by Wendy Smith.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, January 13th, when Trevor Ottlewski will return to tell us about some of the Purpose Built Villages that were specially created by wealthy philanthropists in the last 200 years. Then on Tuesday, February 10th Peter Hearn will tell us about Hennerton from Eggs to Golf Balls - how their family business diversified from farming to golfing. On Tuesday March 10th the Society will hold its Annual General Meeting
