Wargrave Local History
Latest News - December 2010
In December the Wargrave Local History Society had our traditional party. The meeting took the form of a "What Do You Think This Is?" , when members had brought an object of interest - either historic, or with a 'village interest', or an old implement for which the use was not obvious etc. Members were able to guess what the items were, and the 'owners' could 'tell us the story behind it'. Items ranged from a Romano-British nail to a WW2 era canning machine, and a stoneware bottle bearing the name of a Wargrave business, for members to 'identify'.
We were then treated to refreshments of mulled wine and home made mince pies and blackberry and apple pies provided by Wendy Smith.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, January 11th 2011, when Duncan MacKay will talk about The Secret Thames - some of the less obvious aspects of the river, whilst on Tuesday, February 8th, Trevor Ottlewski will be giving us another of his illuminating talks - this time on the History of Domestic Lighting, whilst on Tuesday, March 8th, the Society will hold its Annual General Meeting.
