In December the Wargrave Local History Society had its
traditional party. Geoff Briggs gave one of his most effective audio-visual
presentations. On this occasion, we were able to see the village of Portmeirion,
followed by a look at the Amberley Working Museum, and then a visit to Hampton
Court. This was followed by a history of the Magic Lantern, and finally a look
at the colours of Cliveden in the autumn. We were then treated to refreshments
of mulled wine and home made mince pies and blackberry and apple pies provided
by Wendy Smith.
All are welcome to our meetings, which begin at 8 pm. For
more information about the Society, visit www.wargrave.net/history, or contact
me, Peter Delaney, on 0118 940 3121.
The next meeting is on Tuesday January 12th in the Hannen Room,
Mill Green., Wargrave, when Ted Fox will talk about My Life as a Countryman,
whilst on Tuesday February 9th the speaker will be Dick Bush, Chairman of the
Parish Council and on Tuesday March 9th the Society will hold its AGM (when the
programme for the 2010-11 will be announced).
